Plastic Molding: Its Types and Processes

The main distinction between the two is that the thermosets solidify at increasing temperatures while the thermoplastics liquefy at increasing temperatures.
The other distinction between the two lies in the kind of polymers that form its components. Thermosets are produced from polymers chains with three-dimensional aspects which enable them to keep their distinctive shape. Thermoplastics, on the other hand, have a polymer chain with a single dimensional aspect. Since this type of plastic melts at increasing temperatures, it can be modified into different shapes if preferred.

The process of extrusion molding needs the following things to generate; beads, pellets, and powder. Initially, the chamber, which is called an extruder, will be fed with plastic. The chamber will liquefy the plastic then transform it into any product that is conceptualized. After the product is manufactured, it will be transferred to the conveyor belt and allowed to cool using water. The next phase is trimming the edges and putting the finishing touches. Another molding process that companies would utilize is injection molding. This manufacturing process is similar with extrusion. Plastic components are fed into a melting chamber called a hopper. The main difference between the two types of molding process is that the components are fed into a cold mold with intense pressure. After that, the product will be cleaned, finished, and delivered. Some of the products that are manufactured through this method are water bottles, kitchen utensils, car parts, toys, smart gadget parts, and plastic buckles.
The last but not the least type of injection molding process is blow molding. This process makes use of a die to make a hot plastic tube with a cool mold surrounding it. During extrusion blowing, compressed air is blown to the heated tube so that the plastic will take the shape of the mold. Using this process, manufacturers doesn’t have the need to secure different injection-molded components anymore. On the other hand, melted mold is blown into the preferred shape using a different method.
